FOX 19: Apple and Gouda Grilled Cheese TV Segment

I am so happy to be on FOX 19 this morning in Cincinnati (around 9:45 a.m. for you locals) celebrating National Organic Month! I’m making an Apple and Gouda Grilled Cheese, using Klosterman Organic Bread, that’s nutritious and delicious!

Now, I’d like to state right here and now that organic does not always equal healthy. I mean, you can have an organic donut! The number one thing you should do with anything labeled “organic” is look at the ingredient list. In general, organic bread has more proteins, vitamins and minerals and less preservatives and additives, which makes the bread nutritionally dense. And Klosterman does a great job at using fabulous ingredients, and tastes delicious!

I hope you get a chance to use it in the recipe below! You can find where their organic bread is available here: www.KlostermanBakery.com

Apple and Gouda Grilled Cheese (from Sarah Manaresi’s Kitchen)

4 turkey bacon slices
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
8 slices of Klosterman organic whole wheat bread
8 ounces unsalted sliced deli turkey (such as Boar’s Head)
8 (1/8-inch-thick) slices tart apple (such as Granny Smith)
4 (1-ounce) slices Gouda
butter

Cook turkey bacon to packaging instructions.

Preheat a pan to medium-low heat.

Spread about thin amount of the Dijon mustard over each bread slice. Divide bacon, turkey, apple slices, and cheese evenly among 4 bread slices; top with remaining bread slices, spread side down. Lightly coat both sides of sandwiches with butter. Place sandwiches in the pan. Cook 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cheese melts.
